{"id":2139,"date":"2012-08-15T21:21:27","date_gmt":"2012-08-16T01:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/?p=2139"},"modified":"2012-08-16T09:06:02","modified_gmt":"2012-08-16T13:06:02","slug":"vlr-2012-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/?p=2139","title":{"rendered":"VLR 2012 &#8211; Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are back from the <a href=\"http:\/\/s1173.photobucket.com\/albums\/r583\/VLR-CAI\/\">Virginia Leadership Retreat<\/a>, and wow, there is so much to process.\u00a0 The VLR is an amazing event based on its volunteer workforce.\u00a0 Our VLR committee is comprised of volunteers from the three .\u00a0 I am pleased to be one of the committee members.\u00a0 The committee members plan the retreat, develop the educational program, coordinate all of the\u00a0 retreat events,\u00a0 produce all of the communications, invitations, and instructions for speakers and attendees, stuff the welcome bags, make name tags\u2026. if its part of the retreat, its done by our committee.\u00a0 All of our speakers, other than our keynote speaker, are volunteers who actually pay to attend the retreat.\u00a0 Our speaker evaluations bear out the top quality speakers and presentations that truly define our retreat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/100_0090.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-1781\" title=\"Homestead photo\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/100_0090-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p> and I both taught sessions at the retreat.\u00a0 John presented with two attorney colleagues, Andrew Elmore and Jeanne Lauer, on litigation issues for community associations.\u00a0 With a combined 65 years of experience, John, Andrew and Jeanne provided valuable information on dealing with lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p> presented on legislation that mandates <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Forcing-Green-Legislation.pdf\">permitting green initiatives over restrictive covenants<\/a> that prohibit such things as solar panels, clotheslines, wind energy devices, and energy efficiency measures.\u00a0 I was paired with Pia Trigiani who practices law in Richmond, and\u00a0 with our combined 50+ years of experience (yikes!), we had a lively and productive discussion with our audience on green initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Our event is attended by <a href=\"http:\/\/s1173.photobucket.com\/albums\/r583\/VLR-CAI\/\">managers and business partners<\/a> who are not only dedicated to their occupations, but also truly committed to our industry. Sharing information and experiences and networking make all of us better at what we do.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0033-3.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-2146\" title=\"DSC_0033 (3)\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC_0033-3-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, I think that all I need to say is two words:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehomestead.com\/\">The Homestead<\/a>.\u00a0 Yes, it is a wonderful respite.\u00a0 If you have never been to The Homestead, we highly recommend the experience.\u00a0 It was great networking with colleagues on the Old Course, at the pool, or over dinner at Sam Snead\u2019s Tavern or the 1776 Grille.\u00a0 I would be remiss if I didn\u2019t mention the fabulous breakfast buffet.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m already looking forward to next year\u2019s retreat!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Tarley Robinson, PLC, Attorneys and Counsellors at Law &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Williamsburg, Virginia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are back from the Virginia Leadership Retreat, and wow, there is so much to process.
