(Part 3 of a 3 part series on Reserves)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although Virginia law does not address who can perform a reserve study, it is clearly in the best interest of an association to hire a credentialed professional to conduct a reserve study for the community. Professionals who provide reserve studies include licensed Professional Engineers (PE), Architects (AIA and\/or RA) and experts such as a Reserve Specialist (RS) or Professional Reserve Analyst (PRA).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-155\" title=\"ist1_7119351-suburban-street\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.tarleyrobinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/ist1_7119351-suburban-street2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"73\" \/><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Community Associations Institute (CAI) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caionline.org\/career\/designations\/Pages\/rs.aspx\" target=\"_self\">awards<\/a> the\u00a0Reserve Specialist (RS) designation. The RS designation requires an applicant to have prepared at least 30 reserve studies within the past three calendar years; requires a bachelors degree in construction management, architecture, or engineering (or equivalent experience and education); and requires that the applicant comply with strict rules of conduct outlined by CAI.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apra-usa.com\/\" target=\"_self\">The Association of Professional Reserve Analysts<\/a> awards the\u00a0PRA designation. This designation is based upon a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apra-usa.com\/pdf\/APRA%20Standards.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">point system<\/a> and takes into account the professional\u2019s reserve study experience, professional experience and education.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When hiring a professional to conduct your reserve study, make sure that the individual and not just the company is qualified to analyze your community. Request references and a copy of a recent reserve study.
